Decimal hours and time zones
Timesheets and pay often use decimal hours, where 7 hours 30 minutes is 7.5 hours, not 7.3. To convert minutes to a decimal, divide by 60: 45 minutes is 0.75 hours. A day here is a fixed duration of 24 hours. A local calendar day can be shorter or longer when clocks change for daylight saving time: for a typical one-hour change, it lasts 23 or 25 hours. This duration converter does not measure the elapsed time between two dated local timestamps.
